Life is a Song; Love is the Music

My Instruments

Native American Flute

I play a "High Spirits" cherry wood flute in the key of  G. Some people prefer the soft breathy tones that evoke images of lonely desert places of West or mountain plateaus of the Andes. It is naturally a pentatonic instrument, lending itself to indigenous melodies and improvisation. Single tones can also be sustained or used to accompany someone close to death. Its music is always meaningful and soothing.

Solo "choroi style" Lyre

My lyre was built by instrument maker James A Mackey in 1994. It has 39 chromatic strings and has a full vocal range. The lyre was developed as a therapeutic instrument in 1925 following indications from Rudolf Steiner and I first learnt to play it in 1971. During my years in Camphill I played regularly to children as they went to sleep, or for festivals and services.  Now I love to play for anyone.
